ABOUT

Play the role of a European decision-maker and learn to take a position in a problematic situation. Enjoy the challenge!

The decision-making role play was originally created for Spring Day in Europe 2005. Many European schools participated in the role play and learned about the European Union and its institutions by simulating their work in the classroom.

The activity aims to make the decision-making process as real as possible, so that pupils learn about Europe’s contribution to their daily lives.
This interactive website will help you do this activity with one class, but you can also involve classes from three different countries or schools.

In this website, you will find all all the necessary tools to take part in the role play. An interactive Flash animation gives you a comprehensive overview of the decision-making process and shows how the three main EU institutions – the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union – are involved in it. In the toolbox section, you can find guidelines for teachers, information on the EU institutions, a scenario of a real decision taken at European level, and worksheets in Word format.

When you register, you have access to the interactive road map, which will guide you through the role play. Your pupils can upload and see their final decision displayed online together with other decisions sent by pupils from all over Europe.

We hope that you will enjoy learning about the EU through the role play.
